WLFI - Channel 18's Tiffanie Dismore reported on this meeting.

Tonight we hosted Secretary of State Todd Rokita

Secretary Rokita has served Indiana as Secretary of State since 2002.
At the age of thirty-two, he became at the time, the youngest Secretary of
State in the United States.
He is the Republican nominee for US Congress, District 4.

Mr. Rokita addressed our group tonight asking for our vote. His number one
priority is healthcare and next on the list is getting fresh faces into congress.
"I'm doing everything I can to get a large, freshman class there, that are
doing and saying the same things I'm saying. And if we can get the car keys
back, I don't intend to give those car keys to any Republican or Democrat or
anyone else that is going to take us back to the last decade or before," said
Rokita. He told us that he is running in one of the most gerrymandered
districts in the state. "It's wrong. So you can continue to see me fight for this
because the people need to have the power, not the politicians."

When asked about the great success of his Voter ID law in Indiana becoming
national, he indicated that would be a decision of the States. He stands firm
on the 10th Amendment and does not believe the federal government should
be involved in States rights. Mr. Rokita is determined that if elected, his
priorities are to work on reducing the national debt and generating good jobs,
strengthening our national and homeland security, and nurturing an
environment based on conservative family values.
Every year as Secretary of State, he traveled to every one of Indiana’s 92
counties. Mr. Rokita has supported Hoosiers impeccably for two full terms.
He is committed to his constituents.

Thank you Secretary Rokita for such a stimulating evening. We appreciate
your taking the time out of your very busy schedule to come and speak with
us. We wish you the best of luck on November 2nd

Under the leadership of Secretary Rokita, the Voter ID law became law in his term. The
case went before the U.S. Supreme Court on January 9, 2008; the combined cases of
Crawford v. Marion County Election Board (07-21) and Indiana Democratic Party vs.
Rokita. The case has been upheld and still remains in law.
Secretary Rokita has operated on the same budget, unadjusted for inflation, as the 1987
SOS budget. Additionally, this year, he returned 12% of his unused budget back to the
state’s general funds. He was recently named as one of the "40 under 40" by the
Indianapolis Business Journal.
